SCHOOL SUPPLY CHANGES - St. Patrick’s had the chance to pick up 1GB flash drives

at a great price.   Since it is requested in the school supply list for 4th – 8th grades,

we will provide them for each student and then include the $14 in the Activity/Field Trip

fees each student pays in September.  There were a few adjustments to the supply list

and it is available on the website.

NORTH ACCESS ROAD – We are also excited to announce that the new access road north of

our building will be open this weekend.  It also includes 18 more parking stalls where several of

our staff members will park during school hours.

LEARNING CENTERS – We are pleased to note that the new Learning Centers are in

and completely wired for everything the classrooms have including: phones, fire and safety

systems as well as heating and air conditioning.  Volunteers helped move furniture, supplies,

and computers in already and now the teachers are putting in their final touches. The two

Learning Centers will be used by our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and their teachers.

PARKING LOT PROCEDURES – The road construction on the corner of 204th and Maple Street has caused

us to make some adjustments to our parking lot plans.  For the safety of our children, we expect everyone

to read and follow these procedures.  Everyone’s cooperation will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!  Thank you.

MORNING DROP-OFF FOR SCHOOL

  • All traffic will come in off of Laramie on to the North Access Road (new road along the soccer field) and

through the Pre-Kindergarten (Bell Tower) lot.

  • Traffic will go east through the lot and continue around to the front of the Church as if you would have

come in off of 204th Street.

  • The drop off zone begins at the southeast corner of parking lot #2 where the sidewalk starts and the

sidewalk ends south of the gym entrance.

  • After dropping off your child (ren) continue out of the lot, to the West using the South West Access Road

taking you either to Maple St. (which will force you to go west) or head north out of the access road and

go through the neighborhood to get back to 204th.

  • No traffic will be permitted to exit out the Laramie exit during morning drop off time, which is from

          7:45-8:05 am.

  • For the safety of the children everyone is expected to adhere to these directions. Thanks

  • We are recommending and encouraging carpooling as an excellent way to help alleviate excess traffic and

to make life easier for you.

  • If someone other than a parent of a St. Patrick’s student is taking or picking up your child(ren), please

make sure they are aware of the parking lot expectations.

AFTERNOON DISMISSAL POLICY

  • School dismisses at 3:25 p.m. and all vehicles are expected to be in their assigned parking lot by 3:20.

  • If you arrive after 3:20, you will not be able to enter the parking lot and you will have to wait until 3:35

to pick up your child (ren).  We expect all children to be picked up on time (3:20-3:25) this year.  If a child

is not picked up immediately after school they will be required to go to an after school supervision

area (in front of trophy case) and their parents will be charged a fee of $4.00 for this late pick up

If a child is picked up after 4:00 parents will be charged $7.00 or the total cost of afternoon extended care.

The only exceptions to this rule will be if there is an emergency; i.e. accident, flat tire, vehicle breaks down, etc.

Road construct or slow traffic does not constitute an emergency.  Should there be an emergency, than you will

be expected to call the office as soon as possible, and let them know of your situation.  Your child (ren) will

then be called to the office and expected to wait there.

  • If picking your children up on time is an issue for you than we suggest you work on an alternative plan

          before school starts.

  • On Wednesday, the Religious Formation classes begin at 4:00 p.m.  The RF uses the drop off zone to

drop off students.  Parents/caregivers picking up child (ren) from extended care will park in lot 2 or 4 and

walk up to get their child (ren).  Cars are not to park in the drop off zone.  Please refer to map on the next

          page.   Parking lot assignments follow:

2007-2008 PARKING LOT ASSIGNMENTS

LOT #1  Siracuse – Zadalis

LOT#2  Davidson – Higgins

LOT #3  Mountain - Sims

LOT #4  Hill - Morrow

LOT #5  Adams – D’Elia

CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.

IF CARPOOL NAMES ARE ASSIGNED DIFFERENT LOTS,

IDENTIFY WHICH LOT YOUR CHILD WILL BE IN AND USE THAT LOT ALL YEAR.

UNIFORM REVISIONS – The 2007-2008 Family Handbook will be online for all to read by the end of

the week.  It is currently being finalized.  There are a few things we would like to make you aware of

beforehand.  It has been brought to our attention that Sears sells a uniform pant that models all the

qualities we look for in the Dennis Uniform pant.  The brand is TKS and it is a 65%/35% polyester

blend with reinforced knees.  They are slightly cheaper and are available in the store or online.  This

is the only other accepted option to our uniform policy on pants.  The other options are Dennis and the French

Toast brands.  Under no circumstance can another be substituted and parents will be asked to conform to this

policy if a child comes to school in any other brands or styles.

SHOES WITH WHEELS – Shoes with wheels are not allowed at St. Patrick’s for obvious safety reasons during

school hours.  These styles of shoes with wheels can cause unnecessary accidents during recess or PE.  Please

do not allow your children to wear them to school.

MIDWEST IMPRESSIONS – Embroidered uniform pieces ordered last spring through St. Pat’s Home & School will

be available at Midwest Impressions located near 203rd and Blondo Streets after August 1st.  Their store hours

are 8am – 5pm.

TUITION ASSISTANCE - Every year we have several families who have financial struggles regarding their ability to

send their children to our school. Fortunately, due to the generosity of the St. Patrick’s Men's Club, the Knight of

Columbus and a other individual donors who give to the tuition assistance program, these families can continue to

send their children to St. Patrick's.  If you are a family who has been blessed and would like to contribute to allow

another student to attend our school, please contact us by emailing Don Ridder at ridderd@stpatselkhorn.org.

EXTENDED CARE APPLICATIONS DUE NOW– Please make sure you have completed and submitted the family

application and the $20 registration fee for those planning to use the Extended Care Program this school year. All

forms and are due to Mrs. Gerten by July 31st.

EXTENDED CARE ASSISTANT POSITION OPEN – Our wonderful Extended Care Director, Dana Gerten, is seeking

an assistant that loves to care for children in her program before and/or after school for a few hours Monday through

Friday when school is in session.  The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30am – 7:45am and/or

3:15pm – 6:00pm. If you are interested send your letter of application and resume to Mr. Ridder at

ridderd@stpatselkhorn.org.

SUMMER TECHNOLOGY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The Technology Department at St. Patrick’s is looking for a

few good volunteers to help with data entry this summer.  Data needs to be entered into Accelerated Reader, Edline,

Grade Quick, Keyboarding for Kids, and a few more programs.    Good typing skills and attention to detail are a must.

The hours are flexible and can be worked to fit your schedule.  If you are interested, please contact Don Ridder at ridderd@stpatselkhorn.org

COOK ASSISTANT SUBSTITUTE-If you are interested in filling in for the kitchen when one of the assistants

is unavailable, give Mr. Ridder a call at 289-5407 and we will add your name to our list.  This is a great

opportunity to help out in the school once in a while as well as interacting with the students.

July 29th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at her house.  Her address is 21740 Edgevale Place in Elkhorn.  If you have

following items for our classrooms:  book shelves, file cabinets, dorm size refrigerators.  If you or

someone you know would like to donate these items please contact Don Ridder at 289-5407

or ridderd@stpatselkhorn.org.

ROOM PARENTS - Sign up will be held on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007. There will be a table next to the

classroom lists. So once you find out what teacher your child has then you can sign up to be your child's room parent.

The Kindergarten classes will have a sign up at the Kindergarten Social on Sunday, August 5th, 2007, with Joan Hogue.

Please e-mail any questions to Keri Sitzmann-Robey at dopeyd124@aol.com.

Here is a brief description of room parent duties:  Plan parties, hand out teacher's wish list if needed, coordinate the

classroom basket for the auction (some teachers may ask you to assist with another class activity or two.

SCRIP NEWS - Our tuition reimbursement program was a HUGE success!  Over $2600 of SCRIP profit was returned

to school parent’s tuition accounts!!!!  Thank YOU!!!

I apologize that the SCRIP box has been running low or has been out of many items during the yearend close.

Like everyone…the SCRIP program’s account is now low having paid all the year end bills – tuition reimbursement,

the school and the Archdiocese.  Having turned over our profit - we will be running on a tight budget for the next

few months.  Thank you ahead of time for your patience!

School starts in 5 weeks!  SCRIP will be fully stocked & ready for the new school year.  We will have our

traditional Spooky SCRIP in October, HO-HO-HO SCRIP after Thanksgiving, and our HOP-INTO-SPRING

before Easter!  Look forward to some new promotions as well!

If you have any questions or special orders - please contact Jane Chapman via email

KCCJDC@cox.net or 553-6131.  Also Betsy Ramm is available to assist you and can be contacted at

betsyramm@cox.net or by phone 359-1324.

$$ BOXTOPS $$ FOR EDUCATION -To all of you with “kiddos” in diapers: Did you know that selected boxes of

Huggies brand diapers have Box Tops for Education on them? Each one of these Box Tops for Education is worth

10 cents for our school.

Last year we received over $2500 from Box Tops for Education that was deposited into our Home and School

account. That is a lot of FREE money. We are currently ranked number 7 in the state of Nebraska for submitting

Box Tops for Education.

Be sure to watch your Hy-Vee grocery ads. They usually run a summer special. In this special, if you buy the products

that are listed you receive a printed receipt, at the check out stand, for a certain number of bonus Box Tops. Simply

send that receipt into school and it will be submitted for FREE cash for our school.

Any questions? Contact Diane Anielak at danielak@stpatselkhorn.org or at 238-2622. Thank you in advance for helping

our school.
