St. Patrick's School Board Minutes February 13, 2006
Present: Cindy Engel, Joan Quinn, Pat Adler, Kimberly Fangman, Don Ridder Charles Olson, Steve Morrissey and Mike Socha.
Special Visitors: Staci Wikowski, St. Patrick's School Board members and advisors Mrs. DeWald and Mrs. Simons
Visitor's Report: Joan Quinn introduced Staci Witkowski as the new vice-president of the Home and School. The past vice-president, Angela Davidson had to withdraw from her position due to medical reasons. Staci will carry the office until the new appointments in May.
The St. Patrick's Student Council gave a professional Power Point presentation outlining their duties and activities scheduled throughout the school year.
Home and School Report: 1) Joan Quinn reported on Catholic Schools Week. She stated the week's activities went well and there were many volunteers helping out. 2) The men's club has asked the Home and School members to provide desserts for the lenten dinners scheduled in March.
Parish Council Report: 1) Mike Socha reported that the new mass schedule has been decided and will begin the weekend of March 3. 2) The development committee and parish council have approved the fall "house raffle" with ticket sales slated to begin in November. 3) Finances for the 2nd quarter report show expenses on target and collections slightly under the buget amount. 4)Capital Campaign is now at 1.3 million raised with the final goal set at 2.5 million before beginning the next academic construciton phase. In the months of November and December $130,000 had been received in major gifts.
No reports by RF or Fr. Ron.
Policy/Calendar/Continuous Improvement - have met and are scheduled to meet again before the next Board meeting, a report will be given at the March meeting.
Development and Finance will be discussed at the upcoming mandatory meetings for all school parents. The Developent committee will be looking to hire a consulting firm to conduct feasiability studies for future campaigns at St. Patricks.
Finance : Mike Socha reported that they are presently working on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Archdiocesan School Board Meeting: Charles Olson reported on the issues discussed. 1) The archdioceses has chosen not to become politically involved in the Omaha "One School" choice issue. 2)New policy note: No parish or school sanctioned activities before noon Sunday. Pastor of the parish can make an exception.
Principal's Report: 1) Don Ridder reported on the anticipated school numbers for next year. Preschool, Kindergarten, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh will have waiting lists. Second and third grades will have room for students as well as the eighth grade. 2)Rachel Raymond is recovering at home. She was able to attend school for a couple of hours one day. There is now a webcam set-up in Mrs. Pflaum's classroom which allows her to participate when she can in classroom activities. An American Red Cross Blood drive is scheduled for the parish on April 6 slated as "Roll up your sleeves for Rachel." The drive will be held in the parish center. 3) Three eighth grade students recieved academic scholarships at area Catholic High Schools. A presentation will be made to these students and school on Wednesday, February 15 at 10 am. 4) Faculty changes: an offer has been made to a new PE teacher. Advertising for faculty positions for the fall will be starting soon with interviews the first of March. 5) Graduation mass is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 at 8:30 am. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday May 17 at 7 pm.
The next School Board meeting is scheduled for March 13, 6:30 pm. The meeting closed with a Glory Be.
