2nd Grade
Jodie Hotovy– 2nd Grade Teacher: Jodie is thrilled to be teaching second grade at St. Patrick's this year! She has been so impressed with the kindness, dedication and love that are shown by the people of St. Patrick's. She loves walking into the school and feeling a sense of family right away!
Jodie received her BS degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Since then, she has had wonderful opportunities to teach first, second, third and fourth grades in both public and Catholic schools.
She and her husband, David, have two children, Allison and Matthew, who will also be attending St. Patrick’s this year. When Jodie is not at school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also likes to read, do crafts, and cheer for the Huskers!!
One of the best gifts I received from my parents was a Catholic education. I knew after graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a degree in Elementary Education/Human Development and the Family, that I wanted to teach in the Catholic School system. I knew it would be a place I would feel comfortable. I can’t imagine teaching children without telling them how much God loves them.
I have taught Second Grade at Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, Nebraska and Christ the King School in Omaha Nebraska. In 2000, I started teaching second grade at Saint Patrick’s in Elkhorn Nebraska. I wanted to be a part of a school that was just beginning. A good friend who taught here told me it was the perfect fit for me, and she was right. You couldn’t ask for a better teaching and learning environment then Saint Patrick’s. The students and teachers continue to learn form each other to be the best we can be.
My husband, Andy, and I have three daughters, Jillian, Nicole, and Jennifer. The girls are receiving the same catholic education that I did and hopefully the tradition will continue.
Chuck Valish is very excited to begin another year at St. Patrick’s. “The most enjoyable part of my job is working with such cooperative and flexible staff members at all grade levels.” Mr. Valish began his teaching career in Woodbine, IA in the fall of 2003. “I first knew teaching was my passion when I took a high school class serving in a 4th grade classroom as a teacher assistant. I was so inspired by the kids and then began pursing my goal to become an elementary teacher.”
Mr. Valish keeps busy throughout the school year by coaching high school boys basketball at Omaha Skutt. In the spring, he also coaches the golf team at Elkhorn Mt. Michael. “Working with all ages of kids keeps me young and I really enjoy the wide range of personalities I see every day as a coach.”
