Minutes for Home and School Assoc. Sept. 5, 2006 Attendance: 23
Opened with prayer. Introductions went around the room.
Minutes approved from last meeting. Motioned by Staci and seconded by Amy Osten.
Principal report – given by Joan Don is pleased with school start, carnival and the directory progress.
School Board mtg - given by Stacie Auction moved to the DCC - 120th and Maple - more space and all around bigger place Construction out on 204th started and will continue through the winter – more plans at next meeting Teachers excited and new staff hired
Treasurer’s report – printed copy passed out Total Net worth - $37,639 Carnival income less expenses was $5,111 which covered expenses of $9111 The money to go to a CD for next carnival
Secretary’s report – none
Carnival – happy with turn out and making plans for next year
After School events – next week is first skating party and still planning on doing bowling Gateway lanes will pick up after school and bring the students there to teach them bowling with trophies at the end. Not sure of start date but Wednesday’s starting soon. Book Fair – 17th – 24th Finalizing times w/ Don Funding doughnuts – H & S?
Box Tops - Diane Progressive contest school wide – submitted to Don this week Unity! Over six years this program has raised over $7000
Directory – Betsy and Amy 425 ordered – 98 pages; spiral bound Directory advertising - $2126 with $300 outstanding
Amy Osten formatted and was able to get at a cost of $2.40/pc. Needs tax exempt certificate from us. Delivery of a partial order on 9/11 Spreadsheet to Amy for nametags of members to put on the books Extras $5 per piece
Parade – successful, went well – fun
Food committee – no report Catechumen Sunday next event
Good Neighbor - Mary Osten Provides a meal when a family member is in need due to hospital stay or extended issues. If you know someone in need call Mary. Grounds – no report
Guardian angel – Jan Martin K and First grade mixer – moved inside and good attendance Back to school opening mixer got canceled due to weather New parishioners and new parents get assigned a Guardian Angel to welcome them and answer questions. Parrish has an effort to welcome new parish people.
Hot Lunch Demand for volunteers Mon. and Wed are the greatest. It’s fun in a weird way. It’s fun to see your children during the day. Time commitment - 10:50-12:30
Safety patrol – morning is fine but looking at getting raincoats; afternoon has a few complaints; need lot 4 and 5 volunteers. Never had a student struck by a car and it’s important to keep everyone safe. Volunteers needed for one day a week 3:20 – 3:35 Extended care – Amy Osten brought up a concern regarding parking RF parking is bad; no volunteers to design a parking situation Wednesday’s – possible parking out the West side? Used uniform sale - $400 to the tuition fund for new uniforms for those in need NEW BUSINESS Three pages passed around for review. Tuition Reimbursement Program announced. SCRIP is a gift card bought through the school and the store gives St. Patrick’s a percentage back. (i.e. 3% back from HY-Vee) Available at the Info desk or after all masses Donated $4000 back to the building fund one year; helped purchase a computer server one year; $6000 to the Technology fund last year Promos – spooky; ho ho ho; hoppity Special orders may be a 3-4 days. Benefit to you. Will track spending and profit dollars for 2006-07. Computer program will track the profit dollars. A 30 – 30 – 40 split program was suggested for where the proceeds will go this year: 30% - building fund 30% – back to the family at tuition payment weekend 40% – back to H & S Tracking started in June and goes through July. There is data entry off of the sign up sheets after you purchase the SCRIP. Sales have gone up since the start of the tracking about 200%. Is there a max allowed? Deduction could go straight to the building fund or tuition fund if they want. Visitors can put it towards family members. Nationwide participants and stores are listed on the Great Lakes SCRIP Web site. Any additional thought of putting the form on the Web site to submit? Not tried but it’s a good idea. Will talk to Jane about this form. Ho Ho week – inside of day after thanksgiving week? Please use Spooky scrip week or special order. Drop by at info desk or send your order with your student in back pack. Another avenue with athletic committee – buy gift cards for coaches through SCRIP. Motion - yes for initiation of program; no to stay at home – Everyone said Yes! SCRIP tip of the week starting this Thursday in school email. Buy Hy-Vee books at $3 profit to the school – costs $5 but there is a $5 coupon in the front. Parishoner owned SCRIP participants – please visit them Proposed SCRIP fun nights go directly to the building fund?
Bena pizza day – Sept 18th 11-9 – 10% back to St Pats of all sales 123rd & W. Maple Burger King night – Oct 18 off of 138th and west maple Vote yes to send proceeds to building fund. – All yes votes.
Classroom dollars - $30 to each teacher in the past; $50 proposed Support the teachers in the classroom. They spend on average $200-300 of their own money. Motion on the floor to increase $50-100 per teacher per classroom if budget can hold it; specialty class/subject – one each - from Cindy Engel-- All in favor – YES. November 18th Wine tasting event reminder.
