Planned Giving
Planned Giving

"The important thing is to be willing to give as much as we can - that is what God accepts, and no one is asked to give what he has not got." 2 Corinthians 8:12

What is Planned Giving?

Planned Giving is the sharing of a gift through your estate plan or other deferred method.   It presents the donor with many options other than cash contributions as they seek to provide help for St. Patrick's Parish.  If you would like to discuss how estate planning can be used to make a gift to St. Patrick's Parish please contact John Dunn at 402-289-1890 or jdunn@stpatselkhorn.org

What types of gifts are we talking about?

  • Bequests -- Through your will you can bequeath to St. Patrick's a fixed amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after other choices have been made.  Example language might be: "To St. Patrick's Church of Elkhorn I leave the sum of $75,000 to be used at the discretion of the recipient."  Any bequest to St. Patrick's you make will reduce the size of your estate and could reduce the estate taxes that may be due.
  • Life Insurance -- By naming St. Patrick's as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy your premiums may be tax deductible and it will help ensure the future of St. Patrick's Parish
  • Tax Deferred Savings Plans -- Money in an IRA or other similar plan is subject to income tax when withdrawn and if left in your estate may be subject to estate taxes as well.  If you make St. Patrick's the remainder beneficiary neither of those taxes may be paid.
  • A variety of Charitable Trusts and Annuities --  There are a variety of giving options that can provide you or future generations income, rights to property or assets with tax savings and generous support to St. Patrick's.  Please consult with your attorney or other advisor on what is best for you.  Always feel free to contact the development office for more information.

If you are interest in or have included St. Patrick's in your estate plan you are encourage to become a member of the Celtic InvestorsClick here for more information.

How can I plan my estate?

Make an appointment with your attorney or get a referral to an attorney specializing in estate planning from a trusted friend or advisor. Many people wonder about the cost of creating a will. Most wills cost less than the legal fees you probably paid the last time you bought a home. It seems to be a wise investment.

Make the following lists to help you in estate planning:

      • All the property you own and its value, including stocks, personal property, real estate, business interests, retirement plans, etc.
      • How your assets are owned, such as outright, joint ownership, etc.
      • Names and ages of all family members.
      • Your wishes for distributing your property.
      • Charitable gifts you wish to include.

By collecting all of this information ahead of time you may save time and expense.

We ask you to prayfully consider remembering St. Patrick's Parish in your Estate Plan.
